Update

Just wanted to paw out a quick update on where everything stands. The biped puppies are feeling better, and just have the drainage cough like most of the other biped puppies in Arkansas. With the colder weather, mom and dad have been using the fireplace more. I love to lie in front of it, but I have a tendency to fall asleep and wake up panting. Sounds like dad will be cutting some more firewood this afternoon to get ready for the rain/snow chance later this week.

Mom told dad last night that she might have to place limits on the amount of political talk that is allowed in the house. The next election is just under 2 years away, and it is already the lead topics on the news and dad listens to it all, and gets all worked up at all the lies, fluff interviews, and cover ups. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I would hate to see what it would be like if they had different political views.

Dogs have it easy; the largest and/or meanest dog is the head of the pack. This is such a more elegant and simpler solution, then seeing who can con the most bipeds.

A puppy back at school

Today is a good day. Today Meagan went back to school after being sick for about 5 days. This means I get some well deserved one on one time with mom again. My head is way overdue for some scratching behind my ears!

Mom and Dad got the all the Christmas stuff put back in the attic. This freed up a large section of the den, as they tree is huge. In fact, as they took it down, they found two Christmas presents, one for Josh and one for Meagan that was under it! I thought that was very funny, and a sign they have to much stuff!

Another hard weekend.

The biped puppies were sick again this weekend.

It started with Josh running a fever on Saturday and followed with Meagan on Sunday. Meagan stayed home from school on Monday and Tuesday. She was feeling better today and mom brushed out her hair while sitting on the floor. I walked up to mom and sat beside her. I looked up with by big brown eyes and awaited my turn for a brushing. Mom obliged me and brushed my hair after hers. I love it when mom brushes me.

Weekend Update

With all the rain this weekend, and being couped up in the house, by Monday I was feeling a bit blue. Not the BB King kind of blue either, the I need some sun shine kind of blue. This dog would not do well in Seattle. I spent the weekend moping around the house and following mom and dad around. The bipeds went to the store and Mom being the kind heart she is brought me a new squeaky toy, and a new big pillow for my bed. This made me feel so much better, and was exactly what I needed.

On a side note it looks like Grandpa and Dad's work on the roof held up to all the rain. Knock on wood, at least as much as I could knock on wood without an opposable thumb.

Mom going to the Vet.

Well it looks like moms vet, that they call a neurologist, is going to send her to a special hospital for a week. The hospital is in Houston, TX and is supposed to be one of the top headache facilities in the country. Mom and dad are not sure when this will happen, as they have to get some Medicare things straight, as Dads Insurance (as good as it is, in case someone from his work is reading this) will not work at all. Mom and Dad have a lot of logistics to work out as mom gets closer to going, the little details like what to do with the kids and school, having an estimate of the cost, and who will feed and love on me. I will post more as I overhear more.

Science Education

Dad went on a rage last night after looking through Josh’s 3rd grade science book. Josh loves to watch all of the Discovery channels, and is very good about remembering what he has seen. The problem comes when Josh brings his book to dad when trying to study for a test, and wants to know why something in the book is named differently than what the Discovery channel said it was.

For example a while back Josh was studying the parts of the flower. He had learned about the Pistil, Stamen, and all of the other parts that are commonly known. However for his test he had to know them as the Stem like and the Pollen holder or something like that. This has happened on several science subjects, and we know that it is not just his school, but all of the US schools in general.

Dad said he understood not going deep into a subject, but to dumb down a subject to the point of changing the names of items. They will just have to learn it over again in Jr High or High school. Is it any wonder why other countries are leading the US in producing the top minds of our time. Is it any wonder why we have adults who not understand what global warming is or even that the distance of the Sun to the Earth is not what causes the seasons.

I may not understand the details of what global warming is, but I do understand that each summer is a bit hotter then when I was a puppy, and I see less and less of that cold white stuff that gets matted in my fur.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go lay with mom she is having a bad day, but it looks like her doctor is going to send her to Houston for some test. Man I hate going to the Doctor, I wonder if she needs tested for worms? I will post more on that later.

Another Ruff Weekend

Dad's ruff weekend from last weekend continued this weekend. Grandpa and dad worked on the roof, and got the two leaks from last weekend fixed. Grandpa and dad worked most of the day Friday and most of the day Saturday to get them fixed. Come to find out the last roofing job did not use tar paper over all of the den when the previous owners had it redone.

Friday night Granny and Grandpa took the two biped puppies home with them so Dad and Mom could have a little of a break. Mom and Dad left me guarding the house and went to Landon's house for a get together with some folks dad works with. Dad snapped this great shot of Landon. Other pictures taken at the party can be found in dad's photo log, link on the right.

Dad found out Saturday that moms car was leaking antifreeze on the belt, so early Sunday morning dad drove the car to Cross Auto so he could avoid the traffic issues Monday morning. All in All the weekend was good, as dad was able to get a lot done, but it has taken its toll on him. This after noon he crashed on the floor in the den, so I just laid my muzzle on his leg, and drifted off with him.

Long Ruff Weekend.

What a ruff weekend for everyone this weekend.

Saturday Mom and Dad were going to throw an anniversary dinner for Dad’s parents. They have now been married 40 years. Wow that is what… 280 in dog years…. Yikes! It is no wonder dogs don’t get married. Well mom came down with a headache and Jason and his biped puppies were sick, so the event was postponed till Sunday. Sunday came and went to no avail, for the same reasons. Mom was up on Monday, so a mini version of the party had to happen, because dad had made a 3 tier "wedding cake" for them. Jason still had some sick puppies at home, so we will do the big party when everyone can get together, minus the cake of course.

One night over the weekend there was a large front that moved through, thus mom’s headache. Dad came in the den the following morning and saw a small puddle of water, only about a couple of spoon full. Dad knew it did not come from me, and my bladder-o-steel, but a quick glance up and dad confirmed his fear. The water had dripped off of the recessed lighting, a trip into attic he saw a hole in the decking about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide where he could see shingles. He quickly covered the section of the roof with a tarp, and he and his dad will try to patch it as soon as the weather will allow. In checking out the roof they found the “wonderful” roofers the previous owners used to re-roof the house did not use tar paper over the den! So it looks like mom and dad will be shelling out the big bucks this summer!

I did feel sorry for dad this weekend, as he just had one thing after another go wrong over the break. But he did get to spend some time with his puppies, though he was a bit stressed. When it rains it pours… but I would not mention water to him!
